PXE stand for Preboot Execution Environment. It is an standard technology available in all modern computers.
Why PXE?
Imagine that you want to install linux on 200 computers in an organization. Going traditionally a server would be setup & every computer will be booted from cd & rest of the installation will be done from the server. Now imagine doing this for 200 computer or more. How ever there is a solution.
